Maybe you’ve never wondered exactly who owns the internet. We decided to “ask Alexa”, to see what she might say.
At first she said that “nobody owns the internet”, but then referred to sources which clarified the facts. Most of the World Wide Web is owned and operated by corporations like AT&T, Verizon, and Quest Communications.
The internet is pretty awesome and these companies deserve some praise for what they’ve accomplished. But the era of decentralization is upon us. Blockchain ledgers, governance tokens, cryptocurrencies, and permissionless networks are here.
One might say that Web 3 is the historic convergence of all these new technologies and the apps that run on them, but Web 3 is also about ownership — of your identity, your search data, your work, your art, and even the “web” itself.
Our big idea is that the internet should belong to everyone. The World Wide Web can gradually become more like a public utility or co-op, owned by the people.
Node Star DAO is on a mission to help decentralize the internet and make ALL blockchain networks more resilient; operating as many nodes as possible, supporting as many networks as possible, helping the entire web3 ecosystem thrive.
These are the three big problems we can help solve:
- Web3 integrates blockchains. To achieve decentralization, growth, and resilience, blockchain companies need more people to run their nodes. But most people lack the technical skills, don’t have extra computers, or are busy with other things. Node Star can help. As we grow, our core team will operate most of our nodes internally, but will educate & incentivize our super-fans to become “node stars” themselves. Together we will spread out servers and nodes, supporting the entire blockchain ecosystem.
- A significant number of humans are not yet connected to the internet because they live in remote rural areas without modern infrastructure. A handful of innovative blockchain companies like Space Chain, Helium, World Mobile Chain, and StarLink are working out brilliant ways to bring them online. We intend to support these projects and partner with them to achieve our common goals.
- Owning the internet and sharing the wealth is a totally new concept for most people. Even if people like the idea, they don’t know where to start, how to participate, or how to earn rewards from contributing. Node Star DAO will promote these ideas through social media, articles, videos, and talks — inviting everyone to join the Web3 revolution.
